A Warm Welcome to Our New Headteacher
The Governing Body of Great Yarmouth VA High School have been successful in recruiting a fantastic new Headteacher, Ms Wendy Missons, who joined the school in September 2012. We offer her a warm welcome to both the school and our community of students, parents and carers.
Ms Missons was previously Principal at Frome Community College in Somerset where she worked since 2008 and her prior post was at Furtherwick Park School in Canvey Island, Essex, for nine years. Her broad knowledge and extensive experience of teaching, combined with her energy and enthusiasm, made her the outstanding candidate for the job and we are all delighted to have her leading the school into a new era.
The Christian Ethos of Our School
Great Yarmouth High School's Instrument of Government, dated March 2005, states that
'The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages and understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.'
In fulfillment of this statement we will:
- Promote, across the whole breadth of school activities, Christian values such as respect, commitment, learning, service, justice, freedom and hope
- Provide, within our programme of School Assemblies, opportunities for students to see how these values relate to Christian teaching
- Facilitate, upon request, meetings of those within the school community (Students, Staff and/or Governors) who have an active Christian faith and who desire to consider how that faith might be worked out within the school context
- Embrace students, staff and governors of all faiths and none, encouraging them in applying their faith in proper and open dialogue, and to explore common grounds to living that faith provides
