21 April 2008

NUT strike action Thursday 24th April 2008

Following my recent communication there have been developments that, regrettably, mean I cannot safely keep the school open as usual. Consequently, only year 11 students should attend on Thursday – and it is vital that they do so. Years 8, 9 and 10 should stay at home.

Friday 25th will be non uniform day in aid of the year 11 Prom. In addition there will be a prize draw (4 per year group) on that day.

I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but the decision has not been taken lightly and is in the interest of student safety. However, can I once again re-iterate the importance of year 11 students attending on Thursday as their GCSE exams are now just 4 weeks away.

JIM NIXON

To raise funds for the year 11 Prom there will be a non uniform day this Friday (25th April).  As usual students pay one pound with all monies going to the Prom.  In addition, the names of all students who are present on Friday will go into a hat and 4 from each year group will receive a prize.

School raises £2500 to sponsor a child through school in Africa.

Following an intensive fund raising programme at the end of last term - and the start of this term - we raised £2500 to sponsor a child through secondary school in Kenya. The funds raised have been combined with the same amount from Methwold High School meaning that a young person from a very deprived background will be sponsored throughout their time at the Starehe School in Nairobi (see the High Standard for the most recent article on Starehe). The number one school in the whole of Kenya is for boarders so the funds will not only ensure the child receives high quality education, but also good medical care. Our thanks to all the students, staff, parents and local businesses who contributed to this very worthy cause.
